Welcome back lovelies!
It is such a big milestone turning twenty. Though twenty-one “sounds” like a cooler birthday, realizing that you’ve made it through the teens is such a wonderful feeling. I had so many amazing experiences in my teenage years, made so many friends, did so many things, etc. If those few years could contain so many amazing memories, I cannot even comprehend what is to come! I am ready to mark this new season in my life: one where I finish my bachelor’s program, get into my graduate program and become an Occupational Therapist (hopefully), and get my first “big girl” job full time. I know these years will be filled with lots of ups and downs, but I am glad that my friends, family, and Christ will always be by my side!
Last week I had one of the best birthdays that I can remember. I did not have any huge plans, so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it turned out to be such an amazing few days. I am blessed with some incredible people in my life who made my day so special, and I can’t thank them enough.
The Saturday prior to my birthday, my mom told me that we were going to do something special but would not tell me anything more than that. Of course I was very skeptical and came up with different theories, but in the end she told me to pack my makeup and bring an eye mask…quite a strange request. I figured at that point that I knew what we were doing, but she still made me where the eye mask of course until we got there. When we finally arrived, I found out I was correct and we were at Cloud 9 Spa! I had been saying for the longest time that I wanted to get a massage, and my wish came true!
My mom dropped me off and I was taken back to a changing area where I was given a locker, a robe, and some slippers. After changing (and taking a selfie), I got to hang out in a candlelit room filled with snacks, drinks, and books. What more could a girl want? I picked out a coffee table book about puppies that, again, could not have been more up my alley! After a few minutes my masseuse came to get me and took me to a room, where I got to lay on the most warm and cozy table and get a massage! It was only for 25 minutes, but it was heavenly and I will certainly go back next time I can! After the massage, I got told I was receiving a facial as well! I even got to stay in the same spot while I got it done, and it was such a relaxing experience. The dim lighting, soft voices, warm blankets, and comforting aromas complete the experience, making it utterly relaxing. Though it is something I probably cannot get done very often, it was certainly a treat to remember!
After I came back out, feeling like a limp noodle, my mom and I went to the lunch of my choice, which was Panera! After a yummy soup and sandwich, she told me I had one more surprise. I had no idea what it could be, even after I found out we were going to the mall. I was still in the dark all the way until we got to Macy’s, and then I realized that we were going to MAC! I love makeup, so to say I was excited was an understatement. I went it, sat down, and had a little discussion with the makeup artist about what I wore on a day to day basis and what look I was going for. After that, she set off to work! I love the feeling of getting my makeup done, so I enjoyed every minute of it! After seeing the completed look, my mom let me pick out a few of my favorite products! I picked two brushes, a lipstick, and a lip liner, and I’ve used all four every day since! It was certainly a day full of fun memories!
Though I usually go to church on Sundays, the scholarship house that I live in was having their annual Fall Kick Off and so I attended that instead. It is a time where all the houses in the Central Florida area come together, talk about important aspects of our scholarship, listen to our President and CEO, and most importantly…participate in a lip sync competition! Though my house has not won ANYTHING at this event in the three years I’ve lived here (clearly not bitter), we still tried our best and had a great time! We decided to go with a friendship theme and do a mashup of a few songs: “Thank You for Being a Friend” or the Golden Girls theme song, “Count on Me” by Bruno Mars, “I’ll Be There for You” or the Friends theme song, “We’re All In This Together” from High School Musical, and “We Are Family!” We broke up the 24 of us into groups and all created dance routines to one song, then we would take turns on stage. Though we didn’t win anything this time either (still not bitter), it was a lot of fun and it was a good way to spend the day before my birthday!
It was finally my birthday! I had my first day back at class, but luckily I only had one 10:40 so I got to sleep in a little bit! The class was great and very interesting, so I am looking forward to going through it in the coming months! After class I went to go meet my best friend Abby for lunch at one of the most delicious places in Gainesville, Maple Street Biscuit Company! I mentioned it in my last post, but seriously I can’t tell you how good it is for myself…you just have to try it out! We did some shopping at Publix and Trader Joe’s after lunch, which is always a good time! Once we parted ways, I decided to go into Pet Smart, not for any particular reason, but simply because I love animals. I really do have a problem. It was a lot of fun going around and seeing the little critters for sale, petting the kittens, and looking at the cute outfits!
A little later in the afternoon, my parents, sister, and grandparents came to take me to dinner! I always love spending time with them, and they never fail to make me laugh and smile! I got to choose the dinner spot, so I chose the hibachi restaurant called Yamato! It is one of my favorite fancy restaurants, and is always a special treat! The shrimp and the yum-yum sauce are to die for, and I’m always looking forward for my next trip there!
My family dropped me back off, after a quick trip to D’Lites for ice cream of course, and then I spent the rest of the night hanging out with my Tyner girls! One of the gifts I had gotten for my birthday was a tea maker from my parents, and I was super excited to try it out! Since I can’t have caffeine, I’m always looking for caffeine free drinks to try out (besides water of course). Little did I know that my roomie Rachel got me a Harry Potter mug for my birthday! The perfect pairing for my tea maker! Not only is it a mug with the Marauder’s Map on it, but it is heat sensitive. That means that whenever you fill up the cup with a hot drink, the little footprints appear on the mug just like the map! It is so amazing and I seriously love it!
That is mostly it for my birthday festivities! It was absolutely a blast, and I couldn’t have asked for anything better 🙂
